The Star Observer has been setting Australia’s gay and lesbian agenda since 1979.
Our publications include a popular news website, monthly national magazine and a strong social media presence.
Our first story was written 36 years ago. As a community run and owned news organisation, we have built an international reputation for fearless reporting, independent of any politician or corporation.
From the early days of Mardi Gras, through the AIDS crisis, to the battle for marriage equality, the Star Observer has been there providing in-depth and independent journalism about the issues facing the LGBTI community.
Over the years, we have grown to become a major Australian national news website and colour monthly magazine distributed across Adelaide, Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, as well as selected regional Australian locations.
Most of our readers now read our articles on their phones and tablets. Even so, many people still love thumbing through the longer articles in our beautifully-produced monthly magazines.
There are now more than 120,000 loyal readers like you, who read our articles each month online and in print. Many of you join us on Facebook to debate the issues.
Through it all, we have remained a not-for-profit business owned by your community. Proceeds from the business are invested into our community.
